Music
At Hartford Manor the teaching of music is based upon the fact that it is a creative and social art to be enjoyed. Children have the opportunity to enjoy musical experiences through listening, singing, movement and dance and by playing tuned and unturned percussion instruments.
In Year 5 children also have the opportunity to learn a brass instrument as part of the ‘Wider Opportunities’ music programme. A group of Year 6 children have chosen to continue this tuition as part of an After-School club, and a group of Year 4, 5 and 6 children also receive weekly guitar lessons at school during lunchtime.
We also have a school choir who practise weekly as part of an After-School club led by two members of staff. The choir attend community and social events throughout the year including singing at our local church centre, concerts for local senior citizens as well as attending shared events led by other local school including Hartford High School.
One member of staff leads singing sessions where the children learn songs linked to their current topics as well as hymns for significant events in the church calendar including Harvest, Christmas and Easter services.
All children participate in a range of musical activities including singing, composing and performing using tuned and untuned instruments and in a variety of musical styles. Lessons are planned to ensure every child receives a well rounded music education. Teachers are supported by the Music Express scheme of work. Music lessons at Hartford Manor Primary School have varied challenging activities which engage the children to maximum effect (much more than just hitting a triangle, or playing one note on the recorder as a whole class every lesson!) Please see the link curriculum links for each year group to see the opportunities for music in more detail.
Every year all children have the opportunity to take part and perform in a production where they are able to use their singing and acting skills to delight and entertain an audience.
Key Stage 1 children will have the opportunity to take part in a Nativity production,, Years 3 & 4 will participate in a Spring production and Years 5 & 6 will be performing towards the end of the summer term. All productions are led by a specialist vocal animateur.
