General Data Protection Regulation

On May 25th 2018, the new General Data Protection Regulation, (GDPR), came into force.

The aim of the Regulation is to make personal information even more confidential than it already is, under the current Data Protection Act. The Regulation affects all countries in the European Union, and will remain in British Law following Brexit. In the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) will check that everyone is complying with the new GDPR.

At Hartford Manor, we have worked hard to ensure that we comply with the requirements and we take your privacy seriously. The teachers and support staff have had some initial training with more to follow so that they are familiar with the new requirements.  We have published new privacy notices families and staff and updated our data protection policy.

We are also reviewing the security of all our IT systems and the storage, and diposal, of our paper records. If any companies or partner agencies have access to any school data, then they are also required to confirm that they also comply with the GDPR. Many of them sent us their updated policies and notices as part of their own preparations.

Over the next 12 months, we will be reviewing all aspects of our collection, use, storage and disposal of data. We have already introduced secure confidential waste bins and on-site shredding o each half term. We will also assess how we protect the most sensitive data to ensure security levels are as high as can be reasonably expected.
