Join the Reading Team
Can you help us?
The reading team is a group of volunteer parents, grandparents and carers who come into school weekly to listen to the children read. Reading with the children makes such a difference, and we are keen to recruit new team members. If you can spare an hour or so a week we’d love to hear from you. If you’d like to help in this way, please speak to your child's class teacher or send an email to the reading recovery teacher, Mrs Ghagan, here.
Some questions you might have
What qualifications do I need?
None. Patience and enthusiasm are what you need. Initial training and annual refresher sessions are held by the reading recovery teacher, Mrs Ghagan.
Can I read in my child’s class?
No. You will be allocated to read in a class in which you do not have a child.
Do I have to make a regular commitment?
Yes. We ask that you come in each week.
How much time to I need to commit?
It’s up to you, but we ask for at least an hour.
Who can be on the team?
Anyone is welcome. Parents, grandparents, uncles, elder brothers/sisters, carers etc.
What if I want to stop?
No problem. Let the teacher of the class you're reading in know, and reading team leader (Mrs Ghagan).
